#BookLoversLinkUp: Save the Date! My Lit Squad is Here
2017 is about to be lit. After saying for years that I wish I was in a book club, I’m finally starting one — one that celebrates dope women and the good stories they tell.“If you love books enough, books will love you back.” — Jo Walton
I’m a sucker for good stories, and although I know that books serve a bunch of purposes, for me, they are pure entertainment. My profession requires that I read a ton of news articles and in-depth research pieces on a daily basis and books are my release. They are my way to enjoy and celebrate storytelling in a way that does not have to be purely serious, so expect a lot of fun, humor, and girl talk. We’ll be covering the amazing women authors whose books still have great meaning today to our generation’s coolest storytellers.
Our first book is a hilarious one. Written by my girl Luvvie Ajayi, I’m Judging You: The Do-Better Manual is a collection of humorous essays that call us all out everything from over-posting on Facebook and poor dating decisions to more serious issues like racism and society’s misogynistic double standards.
“I want people to walk away from this book understanding that no matter who they are or where they are, they can do something to make this world better than it is,” she says. “It doesn’t always have to be a grand gesture, but I think it matters that they actively try to find small ways in our lives to leave this place better than we found it.”
I’m inviting a group of gal pals over to talk about this very thing so join us here at Arionne.com for our live discussion. If you want a reminder, be sure to sign up for my book club list here and RSVP on Facebook here.
